The Cravy Family

I figured it was time to write up an update of several things that have been ongoing for the Cravy family. Micah, the junior member of our crew, continues to do wonderfully. His doctors are very pleased with his progress. He is filling out nicely as he puts on weight at a good rate. He is becoming more aware of the world around him and he is not napping as much in the daytime. He also seems to want to be held more and more but we are okay with that. We praise God everyday for our blessings with Micah.

Natty is doing great as well. She is a great big sister but sometimes she wants the spotlight on her. This is understandable and is simply part of integrating a new kiddo into all of our lives. She helps Andi out a lot (most of the time) and yet sometimes adds a lot more work to her day as well. Natty is about to start going to preschool two days a week and she is very much looking forward to going to school. She loves to learn and we love to teach her and look forward to hearing about what she learned at school today.

My eye is recovering well from the surgery. I still cannot see out of it and may never again. The doctor is very pleased that he was able to save the eye and so am I! My work is starting to go very well. Mumbo Jumbo (my business) has landed a couple of new clients includig a local high school football team. We will be filming and making game DVDs for Coronado High School this year. This is a big deal for us and is a big step forward. The websites that I work on with my dad are also doing well and growing each week. We are adding visitors and gaining more visibility in general. Andi is doing a garage sale this weekend with her sister, trying to raise a little spending money for her trip coming up next weekend. Her big family reunion is next weekend and she is planning to go and take the kid. It is down near San Antonio this year and she has been looking forward to going for awhile. She has not been since just after Natty was born so she hasn’t seen some of her family in quite some time. That about wraps it up for now.

I know that family and friends check this site from time to time, hoping to see pictures of the kids. Here are some new ones that we’ve taken in the last few days. We have our next appointment with the surgeon for Micah in the morning and then I have an appointment on Wednesday with my surgeon to see how I am progressing. I pray that both of those go great.

Well, I went in for a regularly scheduled eye appointment on July 2, and I ended up in the hospital having emergency surgery that night. That’s the short version of the story. For those who are interested, here is the long version.

Back in December, I was diagnosed with a choroidal detachment in my right eye. That essentially rendered me blind in that eye. This type of detachment is caused by inflammation of blood vessels in the back of the eye. This caused a loss of pressure in the eye, essentially causing it began to deflate, like a beach ball going flat. I was put on medication to try and reduce the swelling and things began to slowly get better. However, on the day of my appointment, my dad noticed that my eye looked cloudy which surely was not a good sign. At my appointment, my doctor notices that a valve that had been put in my eye 15 years ago to help with my glaucoma had come loose and a hole was open to the air, leaving me at a major risk of infection. My doctor then needed to go in and remove the valve in hopes that it hadn’t caused any damage to the scalera (the white of the eye). If it had perforated the scalera in any way, I would lose the eye completely. While I am sure that I could pull of the pirate patch look as well as anyone, I am not quite ready to go that route just yet. I was scheduled for emergency surgery and I went in to the operating room around 10pm. When I came out, the doctor said he felt really good about the procedure, the valve was removed and the eye was not damaged in any irreparable way. I was sent home at around 3pm the next day and I am now resting comfortably at home.

Once again, I am amazed at the grace of my God. I am always in the right place at the right time when it comes to my eyes. I have the top doctors in the world caring for me at every turn. I was especially touched that before I went into surgery, one of the doctor’s prayed over me. I surely knew God was in that operating room with us.

I may never see again out of my right eye. It has endured 19 surgeries over the years and it has probably given up the fight at this point. However, it is a miracle that I could see at all for the last 33 years and am thankful for all that I have seen. This has been quite a month for our little family, with Micah’s birth and subsequent surgery and now this. My poor wife and daughter have been through some stress and I am thankful for them. They have seen their guys in their lives through some tough days and it must have been hard.
