The Cravy Family

One morning as the kids and I watch our morning shows, Natty spots a BUG! As we all know Natty is deathly afraid of bugs! As Micah gets closer to take a good look at it, I tell him to get a shoe. He grabs the closest shoe and runs back to the bug and places the shoe on top of the bug. Micah doesn’t bother to smash it, he just gently places the shoe on top of the bug. He then yells ” I got it!”  I say ” you got it?” He says ” I got it!” again I say ” You got it?” He shouts even louder…. “YEAH!”  hahaha to that I reply “good job buddy!”

A little later Micah picks up his shoe to realize he didn’t smash the bug, he screams “ahhhhhhh!” He quickly drops the shoe back on the bug and runs off! Ah, the funniest things in my life come from the mouths of my kids.

I’ve been meaning to write for a while. After many conversations with Natty, I have come to realized that there are some words that will never be the same. So here are a few that I can think of at the top of my head.

1. Hold me will forever be: Hold you
2. Milk will always be: Nilk
3. D.V.D. will always be: DVDV
4. Chocolate will always be: Chocky
5. Algae eater will always be: Allergy eater
6. Gloves will always be:Gwubbs
7. Thunder will always be: Punder

If you have ever wanted to hear the funniest story ever told, listen to a 3 year old! I have always encouraged Natty’s creativity even pushed her in some ways. I haven’t posted in a while so I thought I would write down some of the things Natty has told me in the recent months.

We recently put Natty’s bed in her room. She has slept by herself for a while now. One of the first nights she slept in her room, she comes out of after being put to bed and she tells me she can’t sleep in her room. When I ask her why not, she tells me in a soft and secretive manner “there is a monster in my room.” I look at her and ask “what?” She then says to me, “Mom, there is a monster in my room and it has green, sharp teeth. Its big and it wants to eat me.” Now I am trying really hard to not laugh as she is telling me this. I ask her where the monster is and she looks at me and says “its under the bed, and it looks like Strawberry Shortcake!” I can no longer contain my laughter. I look at her and ask her if she is really scared she says yes and then weasels her way into our bed that night.

The time according to Natty: You never know how time works for a 3 year old. After an exhausting night and morning with Micah, we pick up Natty from school. I get Micah settled and fed and put him down for a nap. Natty and I play for awhile until she gets bored and goes to play on her computer. Later, I heard Micah, but decided to let him cry a little. After about 2 or 3 minutes go by and its quiet, I get up to check on him and to my surprise, I see Natty holding Micah over her lap, patting him on the back. She managed to pick him up and put him over her lap. I say, ” Natty, what are you doing?” To that she replies,”Mom, its about time! He’s been crying for 5 days!” Again I was amazed at how funny my daughter could be. She was so serious. She is a very good big sister and a great help.

Through everything that has been happening with Micah, I thought I would mention a few stories about our first born, Natty! She has been great through this whole thing! She wants her baby brother to come home soon, so she can feed and hold him. Since day one, she has been very nurturing to me and has always talked to my belly. Now that Micah is here, all she can talk about is how she wants him to hold her finger and how it is going to tickle! Oh how we can’t wait for him to come home!

The day of the Micah’s surgery, we went out to eat with my mom. We had just sat down at our booth and had ordered drinks when I had pointed out to Natty that there was a bird on a bush right outside the window. She looked at it and said “I want to scare it away.” The next thing we hear from her is a soft but loud enough to hear roar. We looked at her and asked what was she doing. Poor little Micah is going to have to stay at the hospital for a few more days. He had not been going potty with any consistency so the nurses began to be concerned. He was taken in for testing and no infections or anything were found. The Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) surgeon was called in to check on him and he determined that Micah is plugged up down below. Essentially, he cannot pass the meconium which is the first stool that the baby passes after birth. It is apparently pretty common in full-term babies that it gets hard before they can pass it. Things continue to go great as we are in our second day with our new son. He has been in our room most all day except to get checked out by the pediatrician. The doctor said he looks great and the best news is that his eyes look good as well. As I had a lot of congenital eye problems, we are greatly relieved to hear that perhaps both of our kids have avoided similar problems. Read the rest of this entry »

Today is the day! We are here at the hospital, doing paperwork and listening to instructions. We should be going back at about noon for the big moment. I will be adding updates to this post throughout the day.

Update: 2:30pm
Baby Micah William Cravy was born at 12:10pm. He weighed in at 8 pounds and 10 ounces (a little bigger than his sister) and was 21 1/2 inches long. He has a full head of dark hair and I can already see that he has his mother’s nose. He has good lungs already and has been letting everyone know that he is not happy about being out of his nice, warm spot. We got to see him get his hair washed in the nursery while waiting for them to finish with his first shots, etc. He should be released to us soon to eat for the first time.

Andi is doing great and she feels much better than when she had Natty. The hospital staff has been great and very accomodating. More to come once he is released from the nursery.

Update 5:15pm
Micah was finally brought to our room at around 4:15pm and he was cranky as all get out. We had to get him calmed down just to get him to eat. He took to nursing pretty much right away and ate his first meal like a champ. Both grandmas got to hold him and even Natty got her first chance to hold baby brother. He is currently quiet and kind of drunk from his first nursing. Here are some more pictures.

Final Update 10:15pm
Well, it has been a long and wonderful day here at Covenant Lakeside. Micah is eating again for the third time already in his first half day out in the world. Things have been great and the staff here has made it so much better than we could have hoped.

We had some friends, Rob, Denyce and Malachi, stop by and that was nice. Then my parents came back with Natty and my Granny so that Granny could see her great-grandson. Natty got to hold him again and mother on him some like she had been practicing. The look of wonder in her face was so neat to see and as a dad, is very touching.

We will probably be here until Monday as Andi needs to recover a bit before we go home. We are in room 412 if you want to come see us and the number here at the hospital is 806.725.6000 if you want to give us a call and say hi. If you come by in the evening, be sure to bring a photo ID to get past security.

3 years ago today, at 12:28 a.m. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl! Who knew a little girl could bring so much joy and love into our hearts! Natty is such a great kid! She has the most wonderful laugh and such a great heart! We couldn’t ask for a better kid. We have a birthday party planned for this weekend at a ranch. Coyote Run Ranch has a petting zoo, horse rides and hay rides. Happy Birthday Nathalia Faith Cravy, momma and daddy love you so much!

As a child learns to talk, they often get words mixed up. I woke up one morning earlier than I usually do. Aaron was getting ready for work and Natty was in our bed getting her last bit of rest. I heard a noise coming from the bedroom, so I went to check it out. Natty was sitting up in bed listening and talking. I looked at her and laughed then asked her what she was doing. She looked at me so seriously and said ” Mom, I’m talking to the birds!” I opened the blinds to let her see the birds. I asked her what the birds were saying . She looked at me and smiled and say in a high pitched voice ” A,B,C,D,E.” I laughed so hard! I asked her how she knew what they were saying, she just looked at me with such a stern face and said, ” I just do!” Who knew bird talk was CHEEP!

As a mom I often wonder what am I teaching my daughter, and as a mom I have come to accept that I have no privacy especially when it comes to going to the bathroom. Before the age of 2, Natty was potty trained! As a 2 year old, she is still learning how to wipe and clean herself. One night we were watching t.v. when Natty jumps up and yells “I’ve gotta go potty!” Not really that unusual in our house. The next thing we hear is “Momma, I’m done!” So naturally, I get up to go check on her. Her yelling is her way of telling us she had gone poop and is ready to be cleaned. I clean her up and sent her on her way. Then I realize I have to go. Natty then proceeds to sit on the tub and wait. I tell her momma is a big girl and she can go potty by herself. Natty runs out of the bathroom and stops at the door, and says to me, ” call me when you’re done!” I laugh and say “ok.” She runs out into the living room and comes back and says “are you done?” I laugh and tell her no. She then grabs a baby wipe and sits on the tub. I was done taking care of business, when she looks at me and says “ok let me clean you!” I tell her I already cleaned myself but thanked her for wanting to help. As I wash my hands she begins to cry. Her feelings had been hurt because I didn’t let her help me. As some may know, Natty is always wanting to help and is very sensitive. I then try and explain that momma is a big girl and didn’t need any help, but when baby brother comes, she can help me clean his booty. Natty laughed and was excited to know that she would be able to help clean baby brother’s booty. I think I’ll start locking the door.
